Our History at Hughes Engines

Hughes Engines Inc. was formed in 1969 as Hughes Engineering, to build stock and super /stock cylinder heads for AHRA and NHRA class racing. Since then we have grown into a complete custom engine building facility. We were one of the first ASE certified engine machine shops in the nation.  Dave Hughes has a long history of drag racing as well as writing tech columns and doing Q&A for several national magazines.

Although we have built several national champions and record holders, the majority of our market is in the restoration, hot street, oval track and bracket racing area. Our shop has been strictly Mopar  for many years now and we offer many very specialized parts and procedures that are either unknown or unavailable from other Mopar shops. The Mopar market is very small and the bigger manufacturers and suppliers ignore it because it does not pay to devote much time to it. For us at Hughes Engines Inc. you are a huge market, and our only market. We offer the best tech support in the industry for Mopars. Even the major manufacturers call us for tech help and refer calls to us daily. We are more than happy to lend our expertise to people who are using or considering using our parts. World class tech support comes free with every Hughes Engines product we sell.

  • We answer e-mails as quickly as possible but this can take several weeks or months as we get 30-40 a day and only one person to answer them.

  • Phone etiquette: I do not want to know how much you love your car, what color it is, how long you have owned it, who owned it, etc. Just the facts: weight with driver, eingine size, goal, budget, etc.

             Ordering Information, Instructions, and Shop Policies

 
Phone orders: Call 309-745-9558, this number is also the tech line, so it is frequently busy, please be patient or place your order online and put "I need a follow-up call" in the comments section and we'll call you back.

Foreign orders: We ship all over the world. All foreign and overseas orders must be paid for by using Paypal.com or by making a bank wire transfer and paid in advance. No CODs on foreign shipments.

COD orders:  We do not accept COD orders.

Special orders: If you have a special request or need for an item not listed on our website, call us to check its availability. We are constantly developing new products and it may not be listed in our catalog. All special orders must be prepaid in full. No exceptions. No returns. Deposit on custom orders will be forfeited if the order is cancelled.


 
Methods of payment
We accept cash, certified checks or money orders. Visa, Master Card, American Express and Discover, drawn from banks in the United States. All foreign and overseas orders must be paid for with PayPal. Personal checks from US and all final payments must be made with cash, credit cards, certified checks or money orders. All Paypal payments should be made to  "payments@HughesEngines.com".

Shipping

UPS is our preferred method of shipping. UPS offers shipping to all 50 states and Canada. We can offer Next Day, 2nd Day and Saturday guaranteed delivery. 3 Day guaranteed delivery is also available. Call for rates and delivery areas.

We can also send items via U.S. Postal service. Just be sure to let us know how you would like it shipped when you place your order.

Most shipments in excess of 150lbs for a single package are shipped via a freight truck shipping company of our choice. Call for rates and delivery areas.

You can see below an example of how your engine will be prepared for shipping. 
The engine is secured inside a solid wooden crate with plastic wrapped around it. This example shows additional parts next to the engine in a seperate box.

   

Storage

We will hold finished jobs for 30 calendar days after notifying the customer the job is completed for no charge. After 30 days, the job will be held 30 days more for $10.00 per calendar day. After the total of 60 days holding and storage, the job will be disposed of.
